Welcome to the Religion Department

Greetings from the Department Chair :

Greetings from the Department of Religion at ENMU.
The faculty of the Department join me in welcoming you.
ENMU is one of a very few State Universities in the USA which have a Department dedicated to the study and teaching of religious subjects.

Our faculty come from a variety of religious traditions and practices - Baptist, Church of Christ, Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian, Roman Catholic, Anglican.
We have found that our diversity is a source of strength and enrichment.

Similarly, we value the diversity of our students, and are committed to their academic and spiritual development.
Students at ENMU can take a B.S. or a B.A. in Religion, or a Bachelor of University Studies, which may include Religion and/or Greek, or they may choose Religion or Greek as a Minor in conjunction with another subject as the Major.
The links at the right will take you to various pages of news and information for alumni/ae, current students, prospective students and their families, and all friends and supporters of Eastern.

If you are a graduate or alum of the Religion Department - please visit the Alumni/ae Pages for news of friends and fellow graduates. And please send us your news. We are always interested to hear of what is going on with you.

Current students will find news of upcoming events and late-breaking news on the News Page and news of fellow students on the Students Pages

Prospective students and their families are welcome to browse all the pages. We hope you will consider making ENMU your University.

According to the catalog :

The Department of Religion at ENMU offers all students the opportunity to pursue moral and spiritual development through the study of religion.
The ENMU Department of Religion was established in 1936 and is one of the oldest religion departments in the Southwest. It is staffed and maintained by cooperation between a variety of churches and denominations.
The programs explore mainly the Judeo-Christian tradition, with emphasis on texts, history, and languages, and their application to spiritual values and ethical development. Additionally, the department seeks to acquaint students with the methods and techniques of scholarship in the field of religion.
Students may choose to pursue a Major in Religion, or a Minor in the field, or to take courses for their General Studies and personal development. Any student at ENMU may take one of the General Education religion courses to fulfill one of the General Education requirements for graduation.

If you already have a sense of spiritual development and want to take a course of Bible study which will count towards your degree - come to ENMU and include REL 101 or REL 103 in your General Education core
If you're not "religious" - come to ENMU and check out the book that gets banned in schools.

If you would like to visit our Campus, please contact me, and I will be delighted to arrange a visit and tour of the Campus specially designed to fit your interests.
